SPSS v22 Ubuntu Installation

  1. Copy your SPSS.bin file to the home directory on some other directory where you want it to be installed
  2. chmod +x SPSS.bin
  3. sudo ./SPSS.bin
  4. If you get the following exception: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Invalid Unicode sequence: illegal character
    1. sudo gedit ~/.bashrc
    2. Replace all \u references with $USER connected with the PS1 variable.
      1. PS1=’${debian_chroot:+($debian_chroot)}\u@\h:\w\$ ‘
      2. Should be: PS1=’${debian_chroot:+($debian_chroot)}$USER@\h:\w\$ ‘
      3. There is more than one occurence of \u within the file
    3. Restart PC
  5. Now try again with the install – It should be done successfully if you have replaced all the \u occurences!
  6. Go to the installation folder
  7. If you have any kind of lservrc file place it in the root installation directory of the SPSS and replace the old one.
  8. cd SPSS/bin
  9. sudo ./licenseactivator <CODE_HERE> – so you can activate your SPSS
  10. ./spssclient
  11. You are done 🙂
