How to change Skype privacy settings on Ubuntu? Or try Skype Alpha

Skype Alpha
You cannot be added to group chats due to your privacy settings!” or “You cannot be added to a group call due to your privacy settings!“. Do you get these errors often with Skype on Ubuntu? Here is how to fix them:

  1. Type this command in any Skype window
/dumpmsnp

If it says:

System: MSNP: Connection Data:
 * Status: LoggedOut

Then you need to run the following command:

/msnp24

Now if you run again /dumpmsnp you should see:

System: MSNP: Connection Data (MSNP24):
 * Status: LoggedIn

And now you will see all the group chats you were missing. Or you can simply try Skype Alpha for Ubuntu. Download it from HERE.
